LOST The Complete Sixth Season DVD Review And Giveaway Plus Bonus Clips

lost-season-6-cover

The title may call this a review, and I’ll give you my take on the bonuses, but a true review at this point is only trumped in meaninglessness by a review of the complete series, also out on DVD. No positive or negative commentary on the show, or its final season, is going to sway anyone about anything.

Kick-Ass – Mark Millar And Chloe Moretz Give Me A Few Minutes For The DVD Release

br_300dpi

Co-written and directed by Matthew Vaughn (upcoming X-Men: First Class), the ass-kicking adventure is more than just an action film, as it combines a unique sense of humor, powerful storyline, and sometimes shocking violence with impressive performances by a talented cast of both young actors and on-screen veterans.

Clash Of The Titans Blu-Ray Review And Giveaway

1000119762BRDFLTO

There is a very odd feel to the remake of the awesome bit of cult ridiculousness that is Clash of the Titans, and it seems to stem, curiously, from some kind of insecurity on the part of director Louis Leterrier.

Dark Blue The Complete First Season DVD Review And Giveaway

Dark Blue S1

I’m inclined to call Dark Blue “the best show you’re not watching,” except that I keep reminding myself that a decent number of you are. Enough of you to get it renewed for another season anyway.

Family Guy Volume Eight DVD Review And Giveaway

Seth MacFarlane‘s Family Guy is arguably a television classic already, and the show’s DVD releases are as fueled by an appreciation for fans as the continuing efforts of the show itself. A quick glance at the back cover may not lead one to believe that the the DVD set is overloaded with special features, and it isn’t exactly, but the bonus value is extremely high. Commentary tracks and “not safe for television” versions make the set well worth a purchase on their own.

This set brings you 15 episodes on 3 discs, and you get quite a sampling. Whether it’s religion, Fox News, or the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation, nothing is safe from the show’s outrageous brand of humor. Many episodes offer an uncensored audio track, and there is a commentary track on all episodes with a nice mix of writers, directors, cast members, and MacFarlane himself throughout the set.

Ghost Hunters International Season One Part 1 DVD Review And Giveaway

The show Ghost Hunters has turned into a bona fide franchise. Recently renewed for another season, the show also has the spin-off Ghost Hunters International, and its own reality show with contestants vying for their chance to join the ranks.

Now available on DVD, Ghost Hunters International – Season One Part 1 brings you 11 episodes with over and hour of deleted scenes.

The paranormal investigation, and popularity, of Ghost Hunters has by now caused a stir in ever-widening circles. Even those who are quick to dismiss the paranormal in general, and the show in particular, have to face the fact that it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. Though similar shows (and not so similar paranormal shows) have popped up with increasing frequency, this is the franchise that seems to have caught people’s attention.

Even among the quick to judge, who wonder aloud about such ideas like the fact that there hasn’t been a person yet who claimed to be walking around at 3:00 am in total darkness when they saw something, there’s something about the regular guys from RotoRooter that has people hooked.

StarStruck Extended Edition DVD Review With Sterling Knight And Danielle Campbell Q&As

In the world of made-for-television, made-for-tweens movies, there is little offered that can even manage to simply avoid annoying those outside the target audience. StarStruck, while certainly not something parents are going to fall in love with, is a slightly different breed.

Starring Sterling Knight (Sonny with a Chance) and Danielle Campbell, the movie takes a fairly common situational romance story (at least it used to be), and aims it at a younger crowd. Sterling plays Christopher Wilde, an outrageously popular teen idol, thus providing us with opportunities for song, while Danielle plays Jessica Olson, one of the only teen girls who isn’t a fan.

We’re introduced to our story by way of Sara, Jessica’s sister, mooning furiously over Christopher in typical, self-proclaimed number-1 fan fashion. Jessica is sickened by her sister’s crush, and doesn’t want to go on the family vacation to Los Angeles which is apparently being taken largely for purposes of Christopher-stalking.

Avatar Blu-Ray Review

Back when I reviewed Avatar, my main thought on the subject was that there was little point to the effort. The firestorm that resulted in the comments is probably a clear indication that I was right. If you have some odd interest, you can check the original response here.

Of even less objective value is a review of the Blu-Ray release, not only because opinions are clearly solidified on the subject, but also because everyone already owns it, and the release is utterly devoid of special features.

Nevertheless.

Despite breaking sales records, winning awards, and having its fans and detractors right where it wants them, there is a release out there, and I’m here.

With no bonuses to mention, I can only say that the Blu-Ray looks and sounds just as wonderful as you’d think, though I will say that in my living, on a big screen, it doesn’t seem quite as amazing. The CGI of everything feels more distracting than I remember from the theater.

The 41-Year-Old Virgin Who Knocked Up Sarah Marshall And Felt Superbad About It Review

I generally have absolutely no interest in spoof movies, at least those made in the last decade or so, but I wanted to give The 41-Year-Old Virgin Who Knocked Up Sarah Marshall And Felt Superbad About It a chance. Why? Well, because it was at least making of things I wanted someone to make fun of. Not only does it poke at the obvious, but it throws in shots at Twilight, Sarah Silverman, the “most interesting man in the world” commercials, and an “unnamed” show that tricks molesters into showing up to get caught on camera trying to meet young girls.

Of course, the lack of interest stems from the brand of humor associated with such things, and while there are actually a few moments that may cause a smirk here, the film still relies on a level of drunkenness that would leave one without the requisite ability to see.

Peanuts 1970s Collection Volume 2 Review

When it comes to Peanuts television specials, I find myself drawn especially to the ones that are a little more on the lesser-known side. This is even more true when it comes to owning them on DVD, and that makes the Peanuts 1970s Collection Volume 2 a great purchase.

I love the big specials, of course, but those are going to be on every Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, and while owning them is a treat, you aren’t going to miss seeing them.

This collection brings you some of the rarer treasures, and even if they aren’t the ones that immediately come to mind when you think of the Peanuts gang, there are nevertheless Emmy-winning and nominated shows here. More importantly, there are some very cool episodes.

Carole King And James Taylor Live At The Troubadour – DVD/CD Review And Giveaway

can hardly fathom myself as judge of a CD or concert DVD by Carole King and James Taylor, but this is a thoroughly impressive release, and fans will be doing themselves a real favor by picking up this uniquely intimate concert DVD.

Both artists are in fine form, performing their best songs, and I doubt any other venue could facilitate this kind of concert video experience. Wonderfully produced, the DVD is about as close to being in the audience as you can get, and the set also comes with the CD, and an impressive, little booklet.

More than just a concert video, this is really an  historic event, and I recommend it highly.

Check the full press release below, which includes info on the tour, then have a listen and enter to win.

Alice In Wonderland Virtual Roundtable With Artist And Conceptual Designer Dermot Power

I have several things coming up to get you excited for the June 1st release of Alice in Wonderland. Stay tuned for a great book, the Blu-Ray release itself, and more, but for now I have a virtual roundtable with Dermot Power. Artist and concept designer for the film, Dermot shared a lot of his work, and let us in on how many of the ideas came together.

Also in on this event were David Jessen, VP of DVD productions with Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, and also Jim Davy, producer of the Alice and Wonderland Blu-ray DVD, and they added some interesting information as well. Particularly, the way the Dermot’s Oraculum art from the film has been turned into the Blu-Ray menu system.

It was really a fascinating event, and I hope you can share in the experience to some degree.

Mystery Team Review And Giveaway – Plus Interview With Dan Eckman

Fans of Derrick Comedy have had to wait quite a while to get their hands on the first film, Mystery Team, by the popular group. Debuting at last year’s Sundance, the film has had people talking ever since.

The group, which came to fame via internet videos, has managed quite a following, and Donald Glover has made his way to NBC‘s popular comedy Community.

Though well over a year after after it’s premiere, and closing in on a year after a limited theatrical release, fans and Derrick virgins alike are buzzing with interest in the DVD release, and the question (or comment) on everyone’s mind is, “Does the irreverent, crass, and often hilarious mindset that can drive over 150 million internet viewings manage the transition to feature length film?”

Alice In Wonderland Virtual Roundtable With Producers Jennifer And Suzanne Todd

Alice in Wonderland is hitting stores June 1st, and I recently got to take part in a virtual roundtable with producers Jennifer and Suzanne Todd. If you aren’t familiar, the producing duo (and sisters) have worked on a wide range of films, and whether you love or hate the films they come in contact with, they choose interesting titles.

Hudson Hawk, Austin Powers, Memento, Boiler Room, and Must Love Dogs, just to a name a few, though they weren’t both on all of them. With a variety of genres behind them, they are a decidedly interesting pair of producers. (Sorry, I loved Hudson Hawk)

As part of the roundtable, I got a chance to check out some special features from the film’s release, and they were quite interesting. The Blu-Ray is a loaded effort, and if what I caught is indicative of the entire bonus line-up, it’s going to be a must own. Actually, it is in any case just based on the movie, but you probably already know that.
