IMAX Under The Sea Blu-Ray Review And Giveaway

From Life, to Earth, to Oceans, and many more, the up close and personal take on the world has soared in popularity, and many of the treatments we're getting to witness are amazing. A brilliant addition to the list is IMAX Under the Sea.

Focusing on the underwater life of Australia, Papua New Guinea, and Indonesia, the film brings the underwater world to life with a clarity that is simply amazing. Coupled with the composition of much of the film's run, it often feels as though you're just on the other side of the glass at an aquarium (or maybe a diver's mask).

From sharks and stingrays, to the less "fabulous" creatures that call these tropical locations home (like cuttlefish), the film offers not so much rare insights, but rare looks. You've probably seen plenty of camouflaged creatures, but now you get to see how the "hidden hunter" theory plays out, and you get to see it as though you were there.

Unless you've seen a similar feature at an IMAX, or experienced the best that Blu-Ray has to offer, there's no way to explain what you'll be seeing here.

Narrated by Jim Carrey, the film is somewhat overly interested in relaying its Global Warming message to you, but it at least ties things together with relevant reasons for the cues. From southern Australia, for example, there is no further south to swim.

At 40 minutes long, it isn't as overwhelming an affair as some, and doesn't feel like it has to have a story to the degree you find in such features as Earth, but it doesn't need a contrived theory behind your watching. It's content to blow you away as is.

The Blu-Ray comes with five featurettes, one for each of the filming locations, and they are basically of the behind-the-scenes "diary" variety. While not very long, they're certainly interesting, and getting a feel for how a production like this comes together is worthwhile. Buyers are probably inclined to want a bit more in the bonus department, but much more and we'd start competing in length with the film itself.

Not only a great movie in itself, and well worth the amazing look at underwater life, this one is worth owning just as a tool to convince your friends to finally upgrade to Blu-Ray.

The Blu-Ray release also comes with standard DVD version, and digital copy.
