The massive film collection Clint Eastwood 35 Films 35 Years at Warner Brothers might be slightly out of reach for some consumers. In order to roll out as many options as possible, many of the films are also available to rent or buy via download on iTunes, Amazon Video on Demand, Playstation 3, and more.
This particular marketing effort got me to thinking, because movies are not something I have actually downloaded through iTunes before. While I have made good use of Amazon's downloading possibilities, I watch those things on my television. I've watched a few television shows on my iPhone, but who really cares about the quality there?
Not that long ago, I wouldn't have thought I would even ever care to watch a whole movie on my iPhone, but the theory has a lot more appeal to me now. So, I took the plunge, and since this release came at me, I couldn't help thinking that at just about any point I might be stuck on a plane, or forced to kill time, I could probably watch Pale Rider.
As more and more new releases become available for all manner of download options, I'm glad things like this are being offered as well. I can very well see a new rental download serving its purpose well for many people, but for me, this is a prime example of what is great about the download possibility.
Is it worth it? Absolutely. Now, I don't know if it's just Pale Rider, but the quality is a little off if you watch it back on your computer. That might be obvious to some, but there it is. The quality on my iPhone, however, was great. I mean, all things considered, you understand. There's a little something about the experience that will be odd for any cinephiles out there, but the picture is sharp, the sound is surprisingly well delivered, and you can most definitely enjoy the film. Though I can't exactly store a collection of movies at once, there's something curiously cool about being able to whip out the classic miner struggle at any time.
I can tell you that as I prepare for SXSW, I'm going to be rummaging for a few things to have on hand for travel, lines, and random downtime... though I'm not sure what I'll be able to take with me at one time.
Check out the Clint Eastwood iTunes page, and keep your eye out generally for the expanding possibilities.
