American Idol – If Simon Is Out, Is Anybody In? Are You?

American Idol has obviously become a real force to be reckoned with. Dominating the airwaves for years, and now a winter-spring transition tradition, the show has made a permanent mark on television history. Changes are a delicate matter with such behemoths though, and heaping them on top of each other is something that can topple the mightiest of giants.

The latest news, Simon is officially gone after this year, moving himself to his new X-Factor incarnation which will also be on FOX. The question is, is it too much?

Newcomer Kara bizarrely proved that she could out nonsense Paula Abdul, and no one thought such a thing possible. From meaningless commentary that rivals Paula's constant attention to contestants looking good, to schoolyard, embarrassing throwdowns with bikini-clad hopefuls, Kara is not on the fast track to winning any awards for legitimate and/or interesting vocal judge.

Then we throw in Paula getting offed and replaced by Ellen...? I don't particularly love Ellen, and I don't particularly dislike her either, but what exactly are her qualifications as vocal competition judge? I don't get it.

Now we're losing Simon as well?

Simon is the only reason I watch the show after the first few weeks of watching horrible people.

And so, American Idol is going to be Randy, Kara, Ellen, and a big fat question mark... will you be watching? I'm not sure I will tune in at all when that kicks off. I have little interest in watching these three try to out nice each other in the competition for trying to convince me that every contestant should win.

On the other hand, does anyone really care who the judges are at all? Would the show get the same ratings with any judges?

What are your thoughts?
