It continues to amaze me that some of the best shows on television are those that are aimed at younger audiences, while primetime fare frequently falls so short of watchability. Shows like The Wizards of Waverly Place, iCarly, and several others have me sitting down with my son more often than I can believe, and big money programs aimed at adults leave me feeling insulted more often than not.

The Wizards of Waverly Place movie is now available on DVD, and while it isn’t loaded with special features, it’s a nice enough package and a fun adventure.

Wizards of Waverly Place The Movie Extended Edition features exclusive footage, behind-the-scenes bonus and awesome extras that take you deeper into the mysterious world of wizardry! Embark on a supernaturally exciting adventure as the Russos, your favorite family of wizards-in-training, join together on a quest full of heart-stopping action and hilarious magical mishaps! While on vacation, Alex (Selena Gomez) accidentally casts a spell that threatens her family’s existence! Max (Jake T. Austin) tries to keep his parents together while Alex and Justin (David Henrie) use every trick they know as they search for the “Stone of Dreams” to reverse the spell and save their family. You won’t want to miss one extraordinary moment of this extended, magic-filled and action-packedmovie!

Though naturally filled with tween angst and age-appropriate shenanigans, the show is put together in a way that puts action and fun at the forefront, and the writing doesn’t talk down to its audience. The curious combination of children with magical powers and parents without them makes for not only interesting avenues of exploration, but puts the target audience in a unique position.

The behind-the-scenes bonuses, while somewhat standard, have the proper audience in mind, and are going to be appreciated by fans.

This is one the family will really enjoy, and while I might wish there was a bit more in the bonus department, this one will be watched over and over.
