One of the things I really appreciated about the first incarnation of this story was its tidiness. No loose ends. Everything accounted for nicely. No time travel cheating.

Because it was so tidy, the ones that followed had to cheat to follow up because there were no details to fill in, no anomalies to correct. The second one wasn't terrible, but it came off as contrived and unrealistic (as if the first concept was realistic), especially since none of the characters were particularly compelling, except perhaps the robot. Hmm. I've seen the third one twice, but I think I saw it the second time because it was so unmemorable I'd forgotten I'd seen it. Even now, I can't remember what it was about.

Nice that this exceeded expectations.
