Santa Buddies – The Legend Of Santa Paws Blu-Ray Review

Continuing the Bud franchise after 2006 saw the spin into the Buddies series, Santa Buddies: The Legend of Santa Paws adds a holiday installment to the talking dog line. Air Buddies cornered the live-action direct-to-video market when it came out, and the follow-up Snow Buddies became the best-selling live-action direct-to-DVD title of all time.

There’s something about these little puppies, and the kids are going to enjoy this one.

Up at the North Pole, Santa Claus (George Wendt) and Santa Paws are faced with a lack of holiday spirit, which is causing the magic that runs things to fade. Meanwhile, Puppy Paws (Santa Paws’ son) is fed up with all this Christmas business anyway, and wants a chance to just be a regular dog. Yes, it’s the same old story. As the Santas go over the naughty list, Puppy Paws finds a chance to visit a regular dog and have some adventure. Guess which dog is on the naughty list.

Puppy Paws hitches a ride and meets the Buddies. Efforts to fit in and try life as a normal dog do not quite work out, and one Buddy after another pawns Paws off the other. Cute and crazy antics ensue, aided by the magic of Puppy Paws’ collar, and before long Puppy Paws finds himself in the clutches of the nogoodnik Dog Catcher (Christopher Lloyd).

The Buddies have to spring into action, and soon Christmas cheer is everywhere, and fun-filled, family-friendly adventure was had by all. Well, more or less. The truth is, these films have proven to be kid favorites, and they are pretty fun little treats. For the right age group, you won’t go wrong with this one.

The Blu-Ray includes the standard DVD version, and a few bonuses. Sing along with the buddies to several Christmas Carols, and watch the music video for “Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town.”
