Tinker Bell And The Lost Treasure – Blu-Ray Review

Available now on DVD and Blu-Ray, Tinker Bell has a new adventure which continues the fun (and success) of 2008′s Tinker BellTinker Bell and the Lost Treasure finds the beloved fairy in a spot of trouble when she inadvertently threatens the source of all the pixie’s magic. To set things right, she’ll have to take on a challenging quest, and one that doesn’t actually have a lot of chance of success.

2121831687More than anything, it’s a story about friendship, and what being a true friend really means, especially in the face of difficult circumstances. A falling out between Tinker Bell and best friend Terence leaves Tink in even more of a bind, and it makes putting things right quite a bit more of a chore.

While a fun and frolicsome adventure the kids will enjoy, there is a good bit of depth going on in this tale of friends, independence, and responsibility. Behind the quirky, enjoyable characters of Pixie Hollow, and the ultimate daring voyage (setting off alone in a hot air balloon), Tink must come to terms with situations which are easy to relate to. Better still, things are presented not so much as providing answers to such interpersonal plays (what if your friend doesn’t do what you want them to?), but simply as things to think about before you get to them yourself.

It’s a big, bright adventure, and one that’s far above-average in its attempt for a direct-to-video title. Resting solidly on the shoulders of writer Evan Spiliotopoulos, this one is simply making more of an effort than what you’re used to from such titles. Also behind a number of other “stronger than you might expect” titles (Jungle Book 2, Battle for Terra, Pooh’s Heffalump Movie), Spiliotopoulos doesn’t take the easy road in putting together his screenplays. Keep an eye out for The Hero of Color City next year.

Sure, things are pretty simplistic in this one, and much of our continued attention may be a quick and goofy gag here and there, but it’s ultimately pretty solid, and really aimed only at the younger audience. This is not a movie along the lines of a Shrek, or similar animated features, which hopes to deliver to a variety of ages. We’re looking more for you to be legitimately comfortable with the kids enjoying it, not for much chance you will enjoy it much yourself.

As for the DVD itself, the feature looks amazing, especially if you’re watching the Blu-Ray. A lot went into this one, and the scenery and landscapes really tell the tale. A children’s movie is not normally the sort of thing where you find yourself saying things like, “Hey, if you’ve got a Blu-Ray and a big screen,” but it’s a treat if you do.

1955742675The bonus features are not bursting out of this one, but all things considered it has some nice extras, including my favorite animated film special feature of all – the fake bloopers. Following right behind this are some deleted scenes.

Also included is the clever, but not brilliant, Magical Guide To Pixie Hollow, which is a fun exploration of the world, but leaves you wanting more. You also get, Pixie Hollow Comes To Walt Disney World, which is a great bonus for those who might be interested in the creation of Pixie Hollow at the theme park.

Finally, you get an all-new music video for the song “The Gift of a Friend,” performed by Demi Lovato.

You can check that out right here too!

This is a pretty solid release overall. I think will love it, and I think parents will love that they love it.

My husband and baby daughter both love Tink. Sounds like they won't be disappointed in the new installment.
