Mystery Mania – iPhone App Review

Leave it to EA to pull out all the stop on what is essentially just a time waster App. Having recently come out with several big name titles (Madden 10, Tiger Woods) as mobile versions, and with more on the way (NBA Live, Need for Speed Shift), EA Mobile doesn't let things rest there. They also have titles along the lines of Trivial Pursuit and such, and now they have a new entry into the category I like to call "Screwy Puzzle Games."

mm5Mystery Mania is a puzzle game in the object manipulation genre that follows a little robot around a strange mansion. Assuming the role of this robot, and aided by a computer, it's up to you to find your way from room to room, and discover what strange events have unfolded, and what happened to your creator. A good number of puzzles, and countless ways for your robot to get fried or smashed are the main draws of the game, but it also has inviting, old school graphics, and a supremely simple interface.

The game is a fairly equal mix of the fairly obvious, and the somewhat challenging, but it's rather fun, and has the plus of being unlikely to make anyone tear their hair out. You get your money's worth here, but only because of careful pricing. Another couple of dollars would be too much, but I don't imagine anyone will complain as it is.

mm3Certainly not the next greatest game ever, this is one of the better versions of quick, time-waster, and there's something to be said for any App you can distract your kids with for a few minutes.

There is also a free version of the game, so you can give it a decent spin before you buy.
