ScreenIt? Weekly Link Love, DVD Lesser-Knowns And Other Junk – 30 Rock, Monty Python, Chris Pine, And More

Not as busy a week as it might seem. There’s certainly been a lot of talk, but mostly about the same things. Jon is apparently being sued by TLC, and the show is apparently ending in November, but that’s all the same story really. Nicolas Cage is taking his ex-manager to court, and everyone has been having a field day with that one. And, generally, it was a week of hearing the same things over and over… well, and balloons.

Mia Michaels is leaving So You Think You Can Dance… and, well, you know who you are.

The cast of Glee didn’t make it to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, but managed to get a spot during The World Series. The New York Daily News has that story here.

The Fantastic Mr. Fox is hoping to get a little exposure with a new game you can try out online, Whackbat.

Though not skyrocketing in the ratings, Community is getting talked about quite a bit, and while the show requires a certain taste and isn’t following the quick pace standard that seems to be taking over comedy, I find it rather a good time. Here’s a clip.

Fawlty Towers is getting a new DVD treatment, and I’ll have the full scoop on that release in a few days, but in related news, Sirius XM now has a Monty Python channel… but, it will only be around for ten days, so check it out quick. Mediaweek has more details here.

In this fantasy from New Zealand, a 13th-century monk (Stuart Devenie) gets a second chance at salvation when he enters the mind of modern-day inventor Jack Brown (Timothy Balme) to get him to perfect the flying machine that killed him — in the process proving humans can fly. Brown, however, has distractions of his own, including an ex-boss who wants to sell the flying machine to an Asian investor.

The Sunchaser

With a successful career, gorgeous trophy wife, dazzling sports car and a house to die for, Michael Reynolds (Woody Harrelson) has just about everything a young doctor could hope for — except, perhaps, compassion. When a patient kidnaps him, he may just acquire some. Taken hostage at gunpoint by a half-Navajo teenager (Jon Seda) who’s been told he has only two months to live, the doctor accompanies the young man to a legendary healing place.

American Violet

Inspired by true events, this penetrating drama centers on Dee Roberts (Nicole Beharie), a 24-year-old mother of four who’s forced to take on a corrupt district attorney (Michael O’Keefe) when she’s unjustly prosecuted in a large-scale drug case. Directed by Tim Disney, the inspiring tale also stars Alfre Woodard as Dee’s mother, Alma, Tim Blake Nelson as ACLU attorney David Cohen and Will Patton as retired narcotics officer Sam Conroy.
