Hitting theaters January 8th, 2010, Daybreakers is a new spin on the general world of vampires. While we've become accustomed to vampires as the overwhelming minority, in Daybreakers almost everyone is a vampire.
Ethan Hawke plays Edward Dalton, a researcher in the year 2019, in which an unknown plague has transformed the world's population into vampires. As the human population nears extinction, vampires must capture and farm every remaining human, or find a blood substitute before time runs out. However, a covert group of vampires makes a remarkable discovery, one which has the power to save the human race.
The new poster, which showcases the "farming" of non-vampires does a better job of delivering the feel of the movie which looks (from the trailer) a lot more like some sort of Dark City/Blade Runner mix of styles than is going to come across from the original poster, which can't help but give the impression of 28 Days Later.
The trailer actually serves its purpose rather well, and the Ethan Hawke, Willem Dafoe, Sam Neill vehicle looks a lot more fun and interesting than one might initially suspect... especially given the realm of vampire overplay we're in at the moment.
Let me know what you think of the trailer, the new poster, and the film.
