It’s a great week for catching up on previous releases at the theater, unless you’re a serious fan of bad horror, but there’s lots of other stuff going on out there. So, let’s hit it.

TV.com is jumping on the uncertainty bandwagon when it comes to the new Smallville season - Are we getting Wonder Twins?
Everyone is talking about the fact that Lifetime, having just kicked out Project Runway, has been acquired by A&E, so I might as well too. Here’s a link to detailed coverage.
Summer Glau is joing Dollhouse, and TNT has renewed Leverage for a third season. That and more snippets over at E!Online’s Watch with Kristin here.
A lot of things are kicking around this week with video, so let’s get a few of those out of the way.
There’s a new featurette for the upcoming film 9.
In a sense this is kind of old news (especially in the gadgety world of “old”), but the Loop Pointer remote from Hillcrest Labs has been popping up more and more recently. Since it is the coolest thing ever, I thought I better expose you to it a bit. Here’s Cali Lewis on the subject.
Of course, no one can seem to avoid mentioning Anne Heche this week, and here she is on Letterman. Seriously? This is how cool you are?
Heathers is going to be worked into a television series, and here’s Filmstalker on the subject.
Flixster has taken another step toward dominating your entire movie world, with the latest release of their iPhone App which combines ticket purchasing, Netflix functionality, and everything else you could ever hope for… I think it will watch the movies for you and tell you if you liked them or not as well. Pick up the Flixster App free at the iTunes Store here.
Jake Gyllenhaal, Ben Stiller and Christina Applegate, and many more (seriously) are working on Shalom Sesame, a reworking of an effort from years ago which will use Sesame Street characters to teach kids about a variety of subjects from the general world of Judaism. THR has a bit more here.
As everyone already knows, Kate Gosselin is going to sub in as a co-host of The View. USA Today will tell you about it here, apparently with no qualms about doing so at all. I, on the other hand, feel dirty enough already.
There’s hope on the horizon for some of us this week as Britain’s version of Big Brother has been pulled. The next run will be the last, as ratings have apparently been falling off. MSN has the story here.
Good, and frankly astounding, news for True Blood fans, as the show received it’s highest ratings ever last week… for the fifth week in a row. Movieline discusses here.
Yes, Lawman.
Let’s move on to some DVDs!
Nights and Weekends
Joe Swanberg and Greta Gerwig (collaborators on the indie fave Hannah Takes the Stairs) write, direct and star in this penetrating character study about a couple dealing with the ups and downs of maintaining a long-distance relationship. Despite their deep love for each other, James and Mattie are forced to face the possibility that traveling back and forth between New York and Chicago may ultimately spell the demise of their relationship.
Goodbye Solo
When Senegalese taxi driver Solo (Souleymane Sy Savane) picks up elderly William (Red West) in Winston-Salem, N.C., the older man hires him for another trip in two weeks. But as they continue to talk, Solo realizes that William plans to kill himself at that time. Befriending his depressed passenger, Solo tries to convince him to change his mind, and an unlikely friendship develops between the two men in this moving indie drama.
Paul Kinney directs and stars in this romantic comedy about an anal-retentive author of children’s books who’s engaged to his editor (Elisabeth Nunziato) but falls in love with another woman (Rachel Songer) while hiding her from her estranged boyfriend. Not surprisingly, forbidden love — especially when it’s directed at an unemployed single mom — brings unwelcome chaos to author Jack Payne’s (Kinney) carefully ordered life.
Hopefully that will keep you busy a while.
