ScreenIt? – Weekly Link Love, DVD Lesser-Knowns And Other Junk – Avatar, Mad Men, Terminator, Britney, And More!

Another week, and a lot of great stuff going on to continue my quest to not really cover everything, so let’s just go.

terminatorPretty big news this week is the story of the producers of Terminator Salvation filing for bankruptcy.  After a variety of lawsuits and other mayhem circulating the internet, the bankruptcy move has a lot of people scratching their heads.  LA Times story on Terminator Salvation bankruptcy here.

TV.com really loves True Blood… because Anna Paquin is awesome article.

Entertainment Weekly’s sales may skyrocket when the Fall Preview special issue comes out September 11th, because CBS is launching the first print-video ad.  A media player will play clips/promos for CBS shows right in the magazine.  THR’s LiveFeed has  more and an image here.

While we’re talking screens here, why not join the Kevin Bacon Movie Club?

Inglourious Basterds kicked off its New York premiere with a decent helping of promotion for its somewhat odd sponsor Hugo Boss.  Movieline has the Basterds/Boss story here.

TV.com has a nice Mad Men sneak available below.

In other news for those hopelessly devoted to Screening, The Bloggess and William Shatner have finally made up.  Way to go Bill.

The PS3 is dropping its price, and coming out with a slimline version for the holiday season.  That’s great, but the real buzz is that this will hopefully boost Blu-Ray sales.  Seriously, get Blu-Ray.

The risky move we’ve seen from the show Glee (airing the pilot months before we’re getting more) seems to have worked out rather well, as buzz on the series is running rampant.  E!Online’s Watch with Kristin has season one spoilers straight from the cast here.

The Avatar trailer has hit, and well… I can’t wait to play that video game I guess.  Have a look.

And now some DVDs!

As always, image links are to Netflix page for the film.  Summaries are from Netflix.

The Diary of a Nobody

Charles Pooter (Hugh Bonneville) isn’t nearly as important as he thinks he is, and his detailed diary captures the daily trials of a lower-middle class civil servant in Victorian England who’s happy to delude himself with visions of grandeur. The faithfully rendered — and very funny — BBC period drama presents a pompous man with a small life who carefully notes every perceived slight that might hinder the upward social trajectory he craves.

Midnight Bayou
iconWhen he makes a break with his privileged life to buy a renovated plantation manor near New Orleans, well-to-do lawyer Declan Fitzpatrick (Jerry O’Connell) quickly discovers that his new house harbors some old and disturbing secrets. Convinced the house is haunted, Fitzpatrick turns to local beauty Lena (Lauren Stamile) and her grandmother Odette (Faye Dunaway) for help. Ralph Hemecker directs this drama based on the book by Nora Roberts.

Close to Midnight
icon iconAfter the death of his beloved fiancée, grieving young writer Chris Ryan (Michael Bianco) takes a job as a night janitor, searching for peace of mind. But isolated by his solitary work, he soon drifts into despair. As friends and new acquaintances rally to interrupt his downward spiral, Chris starts to believe that the pain might not last forever. This atmospheric drama from director Ken Castellano co-stars Louise Flory.

The Golden Boys
iconDesperate for a housekeeper, three crotchety Cape Cod sea captains and housemates decide that one of them must sacrifice his own bachelor bliss and take a mail-order bride, a woman who will cook and clean for all of them. But when the candidate bride (Mariel Hemingway) arrives, her beauty prompts each man to reconsider the virtues of married life. Rip Torn, Bruce Dern and David Carradine co-star in this romantic comedy.

That should keep you busy.
