Ok, another week, and the first very serious effort into putting together the ScreenIt? mash. This should normally be every Wednesday, but I was working some different angles of things and experimenting this week. What we’re working here is a weekly compilation of just about anything, taking advantage of the fact that I just can’t talk about everything, but I can still give you something to do.
It’s a pretty strange week, and while everyone is talking Redbox, all the summer films about to come out, and the imminent approach of the new fall season, I thought I’d try and get a few other things some attention. Some interesting stuff caught my eye the last few days, and there are a couple of interesting DVD titles. Enjoy.
- Calling True Blood Fans! TV.com has a collection of 201 True Blood images here.
- Tony Danza coming in Who’s the Teach?
- Moviefone’s blog has a pretty good article from frustration that highlights the worst in sequels.
- If you missed the premiere of There Goes the Neighborhood, the reality show that walls off a neighborhood and confines contestants in order to… yeah, I don’t know, you can catch the full episode at TV.com here.
- The Invention of Lying trailer has been making the rounds recently, and oddly enough perhaps, it doesn’t look bad.
- You probably already own the DVD, because that’s just how you are, but I thought I’d let you know that My So-Called Life is now available on Hulu.
- ScreenRant.com has an update on some of the upcoming toy/game movies that are in the works here. Stretch Armstrong anyone?
- Have a show you like that has a character you don’t? TV.com has a little fun with an article on characters who need to be killed off here.
That should keep you busy for a while… now on to some DVDs. Image link will take you to the DVDs Netflix page, title link shows Amazon info and other fun stuff if available. Snippets are from Netflix.
Paris 36

When a neighborhood music hall closes down, a trio of unemployed friends (Gérard Jugnot, Clovis Cornillac and Kad Merad) vow to bring the business back from the dead by staging a musical they hope will be a hit. If their gamble pays off, they’ll have the money to buy the theater for themselves — and the power to control their own destinies. Christophe Barratier directs this Berlin Film Festival selection set in 1930s Paris.
The Life and Times of Vivienne Vyle

This British satire skewers mindless media culture as it follows the brazen schemes of Vivienne Vyle (Jennifer Saunders), a daytime talk show host who never met a guest she wouldn’t exploit to further her own career. As Vivienne watches her shamelessly sensationalistic show climb up the ratings, she must contend with her gay but devoted husband (Conleth Hill) and her heartless producer (Miranda Richardson) who’s even more calculating than she is.

Television director Mark Brady (Donal Logue) has one last chance to salvage his broken career when he’s hired to direct a low-rated fishing show in Scotland. But to do so, he must stay sober and work closely with the show’s host: his bitter ex-wife, Taya (Joely Collins). Stuck in a village of quirky Scots, Brady finds love with local fisherwoman Nicki (Kirsty Mitchell). But can he also find redemption for himself and heal a painful past?

Unhappy with his life, mattress salesman Brian Weathersby (Paul Dano) pursues his lifelong obsession with adopting an infant from China. But when attractive customer Harriet (Zooey Deschanel) catches his eye, he starts pursuing her instead. Soon, Harriet’s overbearing father (John Goodman) and Brian’s parents (Ed Asner and Jane Alexander) become involved in their relationship, pushing Brian to take drastic action in this quirky romantic comedy.
