ScreenTime – The Crew’s Brett Register

It’s another trip into ScreenTime, and today we’ve got creator and star of The Crew, Brett Register.  Please trek on over to the general review of The Crew here to get info on the show itself and where you can see it.

Here we go!

brettthecrew1. The Crew falls into a pretty specific brand of humor (I think), can you name some television shows that you think inspire the comedy behind the show.

Obviously, the show is greatly inspired by the comedy in The Office, but when writing I also draw a lot of comedic inspiration from shows like Friends and 30 Rock.

2.  What’s the best movie you’ve seen recently (in or out of the theaters), and can you sing its praises a bit?

Star Trek, good Lord, I thought it was an amazing re-boot of the franchise, but since everyone is currently singing its praises, I figure they’re covered. So, I’m going to go with Lesbian Vampire Killers, which I just caught a screening of, and although it’s completely ridiculous; shot composition, score, acting, were all remarkable and I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed it… seriously.

3.  Obligatory webshow question – What are some of your favorite webshows, especially those that you think aren’t popular enough?

Well, I love Dorm Life and The Guild, but they’re both very popular. Some shows I enjoy that don’t garnish such fan fare are 2/8th Life, Player Haters, and Invention: with Brain Forbes.

4.  Can you give us a few movies you love that you think might help people ‘get a feel’ for your tastes and personality?

I really enjoy pretty much anything from David Croenberg, Danny Boyle, and Darren Aronofsky. The Fly, Sunshine, and The Fountain are three of my all time favorites! I tend to look more towards films that present a story just slightly outside the realm of possibility. Also, anything to do with space and/or time travel is a real winner in my book.

5.  Are there any new shows from the last year that hooked you, and can you expand on their greatness?

I’m a little stuck in my ways, and it typically takes a while for me to get on board with a new show, but I never miss The Office, 30 Rock, and Gossip Girl… yes Gossip Girl, because it’s brilliant, and not at all silly. Recently I’ve been completely entralled by a show on the bbc called “Skins.” It’s also in the drama catagory, which means it is a bit ridiculous, but all in a very addictive manner.

6.  If you could take over and be in one movie released in May or June, what movie would suddenly have you starring in it?

Moon. Eventhough I think Sam Rockwell is going to knock it out of the park, I would have loved to be in that film, it looks incredible. Plus, the added narcissism of acting with yourself is always fun.

7.  What’s your all-time favorite movie that almost no one knows?

Timeline. It’s such a bad movie, but I love it. It’s one of my all time favorite books, and the adaptation is just a mess, but for some strange reason I watch it all the time and am throughly entertained.

8.  You get an email from someone expressing interest in being on an episode of The Crew, assuming this is the coolest thing ever, who is it?

If William Shatner ever e-mails me to be on The Crew, once I’ve recovered from passing out on my keyboard, that would be the coolest thing ever. Also, I’ve totally got a part waiting for him, so feel free to send my info over his way.

9.  If you were given control of a new version of TVLand and picked the programming, what we be watching there?

I would play full seasons at a time of Duck Tales, Boy Meets World, and Are You Afriad of the Dark. And it would be the most popular network in the history of time… or the greatest failure. Sadly, we’ll never know.

10.  Best movie ever?

Meet Joe Black. Three hours of dialouge, amazing! And after that manly answer I’m going to go fist fight some grizzly bears.

Thanks very much to Brett (who answered those questions more like I would than he suspects) and everyone from The Crew.  Seriously, check out the show.
