I love this show, I have checked it out from the library 3 times. All the people were great and the one my heart went out to was Mark Glenn and the boy who so loved his animals. I think Karen is a terrific survivor but she needs to be alone because she busts a mans ..... Too bad, but I am happy Mark is now living in Montana and doing what he loves, I hope he is happy. The Clunes have gotten bad press but I think they did an excellent job and Adrienne was just classy all the time. I really like her, all of them actually. And then there is soft hearted Nate and Kristen..an amazing couple, as was Nates Dad. Really a good show and I wonder how many of us could have done as well.

I disagree with your assessment of Karen. Her husband had no sympathy for her position as the mother of two children who had brought a strange man into their lives and turned him into their stepfather. She WAS totally responsible for her kids! I don't care if she married that guy; she was a Mom first. The world would be a better place if more women realized that. She had a tremendous amount of pressure on her shoulders, and all he ever did was gripe and moan like an immature child about how he was just going to "do what she said" or get in trouble. He was immature and not strong enough to meet her where he needed to meet her, and she was too distanced from the relationship at that point to care. As for the Clunes, I don't buy that crap about how the "pioneers would have done it this way." The point of the project was to live the way those early settlers lived. If we wanted to see people simply embrace the "spirit" of the pioneers, we could film them in downtown NY driving taxis and eating hotdogs while challenging themselves to make a new life. The POINT was that they were supposed to abide by certain rules. They just sold their horses, which would have destroyed the family. They claimed that everything would have been perfect if they'd been able to hunt, but they didn't have nearly enough firewood. It was all BS. I think that becoming a powerful businessman is a lot like being a powerful politician. You just need to know how to blow hot air out of your ass with confidence, and most people will buy it. Mr. Clune was full of hot air and rationalizations.
The kids were the best part of the show. Karen, the woman you demonize here, raised my two favorite, most grounded kids on the show. Her son was a sweetheart.
I agree that the Brooks were the most dignified people on the show. I wonder how Nate and kristen are doing now.

If anybody is thinking about going into nursing, all I can say is, the overwhelming majority of nurses out there are more like Karen than not. I'm just sayin.

I really, really liked the Frontier House out of all the historical reality shows that have been created recently. And I now have it on DVD to watch at my leisure. I do believe the whole series offered a very good insight into how difficult life used to be, and the interesting thing is, this might be the life of the future for a lot of people as oil runs out, fossil fuels decline and the demand for food becames ever higher.

I don't think Karen Glenn can be singled out alone for just being difficult. I felt she preached neighbourliness but didn't always practice this particularly regarding Adrienne. But I was really glad to see Mark Glenn get a lot out of it. They all did in their own different ways. Montana seems a fantastic place to live, and those who live there and survive the winter are very lucky indeed.
