Jillian Harris became a fan favorite on The Bachelor, and now she gets to make the calls. Tonight we get the rundown on all the bachelors who are hoping not to get stuck in her old shoes and become the person America is shocked doesn't get a rose.
Tonight's episode remains true to Bachelor form, and everything about the introductions will feel familiar. Apart from the semi-surprise towards the end (which ABC has given away already on their own site) that five more bachelors suddenly show up, the five-minute dating routine is the same as usual.
Our selection seems to be pretty standard fare as well. Everyone has to have a quirk. Well, okay, there are a couple who are pretty normal, but they stand out as the exceptions that prove the rule. For the most part, if it isn't an unusual hobby, then they have a weird (or even... quaint maybe?) job, or otherwise just seem a little bit off.
Of course, they're all fabulously gaga over Jillian. The major plus to these versions of the shindig, obviously, is that these guys have all had lots of opportunity to fall for Jillian before signing up for the show. There's something a little bit more and a little bit less to the whole affair from that starting point for me, and you're going to see what I mean tonight. Things somehow start off slightly more reasonable when people aren't proclaiming their love for (or maybe, intense desire to love) someone they've never seen before. And yet, when these guys start talking about love and/or puffing out their chests at each other, it's almost worse somehow that they... I don't know... sort of know her?
And then there's this guy.
What more can you say about that, except that the pastel shirts were overly present.
The Bachelorette is a tricky show to endorse, especially at this stage of the game. You already know if you're interested or not, and there's enough information out there already. My two cents isn't going to change your mind one way or the other, and I'm not sure I want to go so far as to make the attempt. On the other hand, I will say that this run has some strong potential. I'm putting few hopes on the merry band of misfits we have thrown at us with both barrels in tonight's episode, but rather on the fact that Jillian seems to be one of the more 'real' rose-giver-outers we've had. The first episode of any version of Bachelorness is always rather annoying for me, mainly because so much time has to be spent with a crew of people who are going to get shot down by the busload in short order, but this one spends some time laying out Jillian too, and she's pretty watchable.
