The Apprentice UK – Coming To BBCAmerica

Watch out Trump, you’re up against a knight now.

apprenticeukThe UK version of The Apprentice stars Sir Alan Sugar as… well, The Boss… the one who fires people.  Though in its fifth series outside the U.S., BBCAmerica is starting a run of the first series starting May 5th.

It’s much the same game, but with outrageous British accents, and to some degree or other a bit more decorum.  The contestants are similarly Type-A, but there’s rather less drama just for the sake of drama.  Restaurant owners, investment analysts, real estate developers, and other movers and shakers come together to hawk flowers at passersby in the hopes of getting a job working for Sir Sugar.

apprentice_1st_series_-_sir_alan_sugar2_webThroughout the season the teams must design products with a toy company, compete in a “haggling” challenge in which they must buy the same items for the lowest price, run the catering for a large event, create a marketing campaign for a jet-rental service, sell used cars, and much more.

Cut, perhaps vaguely, from the same cloth as Donald Trump, Sir Alan Sugar proves a hard judge to impress, and he makes the show a bit more addictive than the American version.

Check out the BBCAmerica page for the show here, and tune in May 5th for the premiere.
