ScreenTime – Valley Peaks’ Tanner Beard – Brady

by Marc Eastman on February 27, 2009

Welcome to ScreenTime!

Just because I find it rather hilarious, I’m going to steal the Valley Peaks website description of Brady.

brady

You know that guy in every 80s comedy who is a total dick to everyone? Meet the next generation of vain asshole, Brady. Another VP lifer – Brady is the male Juliette – scheming and double-teaming. Brady is the kind of sexy alpha male that threatens all those who try to compete – and conquers all the innocent prey that gets in his way. A hunter? Yes. But there is a side of Brady that is protective (like the mother of a bear cub) of his younger sister, Shelly. Brady’s sexy stare might melt your heart, but it could also burn your soul.

Tanner Beard also took a shot at ScreenTime questions, and I think I’ll just jump right in.

1. The show is definitely taking aim at a certain genre of television… are there any shows you watch regularly that might be surprising given the no holds barred approach of ValleyPeaks?

I don’t watch too much TV, but I have been able to get hooked on a few shows like “entourage” and ‘Lost”. I tried to watch “South Park” and “Family Guy” re-runs when I can.

2. Have to throw this out to everyone who does webshows… What webshows do you watch that you don’t think are getting enough attention?

I have seen several Web Shows but the only one that ever really stuck out at me was “Italian Spider-man” it was really funny when it came out. I would genuinely be excited to see the next episode every week. It’s hilarious in the way they sell the idea of it being something that’s supposed to look like it’s been sitting on the shelf since the 60s. It’s a fun one.

3. If you had the opportunity to make a similar show that took aim at another genre, what might we expect?

Thats a tough one, I’d say either taking a stab at the 80s action genre or if you had the money for doing something really outrages, how fun would it be to do a period piece show or some ridiculous space frontier show

4. Are there any films that you would say inspired your sense of humor?

I can definitely say my all time biggest comedic influences have come from Trey Parker and Matt Stone, with the South Park Film and their show. Also early Adam Sandler films, like Happy Gilmore were as good as it got for me as a kid. And of course films like Dumb and Dumber but earlier comedies had a big impact on me as well, Chevey Chase and the Vacations movies, Airplane, Hot Shots etc..

5. What’s the best thing on television right now?

I have to go on what I’ve seen, which isn’t much but: it’s hard to say that pound for pound, LOST isn’t the best show, but i’ve heard Friday Night Lights is really good.

6. The show has a certain element of bad acting as good acting, because it’s supposed to be bad acting… does that theory came from anywhere specific? Any shows or movies that inspired that particularly approach?

Ha, bad acting done well….hum maybe that theory comes from the spoof element of our show, I think the basis for it strongly comes from watching hours of Telemundo day time soaps and then watching show’s like One Tree Hill, or coastal dreams. It can do strange things to your brain.

7. If you could get anyone to guest star on the show (particularly an actor of some repute as that would make for a convenient answer), who would it be and why?

Jean-Claude Van Damme. What a perfect character for a show like ours. It’s funny and yet awesome on sooo many different levels.

8. What are the last five things you did that involved a screen… starting from right… now… and not counting this.

I’ve definitely been staring at this lap top computer screen for a while. Then is my Tv Screen that’s on right now. (ESPN) My iPhone screen, just texted. About to head back over to the editing monitor computer screen and wouldn’t know it my widow screen. I just had to take it off recently when I locked my keys in my house!

9. What’s the best movie you’ve seen recently… in theater or not doesn’t matter. Can you sing its praises a bit?

I have a looong list of great movies that I’m constantly trying to check off. Recently I saw the classic: Paul Newman’s The HustlerThe Hustler reviewsThe Hustler reviews. Really great acting performances, Newman was amazing in it along with everyone else, shot really cool. Great Film. I was embarrassed it had taken me so long to see it.

10. If I were going to give you the money to turn ValleyPeaks into a movie, who would you demand I get on board the project, and why? Directors, actors, whatever.

Ha, lets do it! I would have to say if you want it to be a Valley Peaks movie – you gotta go with crazy bastards behind it! Kayvon Esmaili, Phil Donohue, Myself and Phil Jessen!
