It’s actually not that rare for a show to last 100 episodes anymore, but it is still rare for a show to still be doing interesting things when it reaches that mark. House overcame a slight hiccup in the second season, and managed to slink past a few less than stellar episode ideas last season, and things seem to be right on track again. That’s tricky when you’re this far along.
Chalk it up to Hugh Laurie, great writing, and/or solid performances by the supporting cast. However you choose to slice it, the show is still going strong. Ratings are great, and the storylines are not taking a breather just because things are going well. Tonight’s episode gives Cuddy some new teeth, and it’s a welcome addition. A long-running problem of the show, in my mind, has been Cuddy’s on-again off-again pseudo-attempts at controlling her hospital.
Thirteen’s health continues down the road of escalating issue, something that has been going on a little too long for me. Get somewhere with it, or stop throwing it around.
The kick of the episode comes from the current patient, a cancer researcher who leaves her professional life behind in order to put some happiness in her life. After a couple of decades working as a doctor, a health issue wakes her to the idea that she hasn’t had much life in her life yet. The theory spurs a great deal of debate amongst the show’s regulars, and of course House applies the same theory he applies to every situation involving people… we all do what we want to do.
The show is still built on conversations, and the writing is still holding up well on that front. House’s rather confusing views on tonight’s confrontation with Cuddy are worth a watch in themselves.
It’s a good time to return if you happened to have strayed from the show. Tonight’s character-focusing episode leads into several new shows on the horizon. Next week features lots of hallucinations and Thirteen and Foreman’s relationship is brought to the foreground… more.
You don’t want to miss tonight’s episode, which really solidifies (even more than last week’s ratings-winning episode) why this show is among the best of current television.
Here’s a clip from tonight’s show, and an interview from the 100th episode party.

The only show I watched from the very beginning. And still am although it lost some of the sparkle.
Hugh Laurie and the writing keep the movie rock and rolling
It has lost a bit of sparkle to be honest, and back in the first season I thought we might be in a bit different place by now… but, for 100 episodes it's doing remarkably well considering where most recent television ends up after that long.
Thanks much for the comment.

I can't wait for this episode to come to Australia
I know your pain. I was in Germany for about three weeks, and “new” to them was the end of last season. Meanwhile, getting emails about the new episodes. It wasn't fun.
This episode and the two before it are all quite good.
Thanks for the comment.
