I don’t know if you’ve seen these television spots that are on occasionally which are being paid for by various do-gooder groups who have fallen for this hoax, but if you’ve heard about buying a digital converter because your analog television is going to stop working on a certain date, please for crying out loud read MSN’s detailed account of the entire history of this nonsensical scam HERE.
Now, I’ll grant you that this thing has got to be one of the greatest hoaxes ever. You probably haven’t noticed it to the extent that I have, but I watch a lot of TV, and let me tell you this thing is getting so much airtime it’s just brilliant.
CNN also put together some interview footage of the guys who started the ball rolling HERE.
Hello! That’s not what digital converter boxes do! That’s not why you see them on the shelves of the store!
Does anyone stop you buying the thing when you pick one up at Target, because you feel for the ridiculous scam? No.
…
Yeah, okay,
Well, sure the thing is actually for real, but can I please not hear about it anymore?
Does more money actually need to spent on this? Who hasn’t heard, and what is the giant freakin problem if someone hasn’t heard?
Millions of dollars are being spent pissing me off day after day after day, because God forbid Cletus down in Hazzard hasn’t heard the damn news yet??? And then what? What disaster are we avoiding here? Are people going to stop ODing in the gutter? Is global warming going to be averted? Are going to dodge the fuel crisis as long as we make sure every person in the country cannot possibly avoid the news?
No, somewhere down the road in the non-wasting millions of dollars parallel universe, Cletus turns on his friggin TV one day and it doesn’t go on. Are we saving him from death? No.
Someone tell me the need for further ads.
Whoever doesn’t know right now can just figure it the hell out when the time comes. Where’s the problem???
And… why is it that the one cool thing to happen during the Macy’s Parade shows up the one time I am not being forced to watch it!?
And, on that note, I’ll be in Germany for two weeks, and expect the chances of posting to be pretty slim, though I’ll try my best.
Cheers.
