The Tyra Show is moving out of syndication, and taking up residency on The CW. The Hollywood Reporter sites economic slowdown as the reason for the move. I knew something good we could call a result of the economy downward spiral was going to turn up.
The story goes that stations buying into the syndication scheme will be looking to cut costs, and thus have to bow out of the show. Considering the backing of The Emmy's "giggle-snicker... yeah, we're a complete crap award" most ludicrous move ever, it's plausible that The Tyra Show syndication might fall to the bad side of economic decisions. On the other hand, it is also somewhere within the spectrum of real concern that syndicating stations might also fall victim to simply realizing (by being alerted to every new episode of The Soup, if by no other means) that it's one of the dumbest shows ever.
Warner Bros. Domestic TV Distribution and Telepictures Prods. (whew) has been serving up the show for syndication, and is throwing forward in its place Judge Jeanine Pirro... whatever the hell that is. Meanwhile, The CW plans to offer back-to-back Tyra from 3-5 pm, with a rerun followed by a new episode. Backing up their economic hardship story (???), the show is also shortening production from a 34 week schedule to only 26 new episodes.
Everyone involved seems to be putting the happiest possible face on the move, citing the wonderful cross-branding, and excellent opportunities of daytime into primetime with Tyra on two shows on the network.
If we're lucky, double-exposure, potential timeslot conflict, and a general trend toward increasing intelligent quotients will finally rid the world of this nonsense. Hooray bad economy!
Please check out the Condensed Soup link below, just because it is my favorite Tyra moment ever.
