Samuel L. Jackson Has Officially Gone From Supercool To Tool… in Pictures

by Marc Eastman on October 31, 2008

In the late 80s and early 90s, I was Samuel L. Jackson’s biggest fan.  He moved his way up through smaller roles on increasingly big and/or cool efforts, until he was making it center stage, and giving memorable performances.

He climbed his way up from things like Spencer: For Hire, RagtimeRagtime reviewsRagtime reviews, and Coming to America… through to School Daze, Do the Right Thing, and GoodfellasGoodFellas reviewsGoodFellas reviews… up to (by 1994) Patriot GamesPatriot Games reviewsPatriot Games reviews, True RomanceTrue Romance reviewsTrue Romance reviews, and Pulp FictionPulp Fiction reviewsPulp Fiction reviews… just to give some highlights.

At the same time, he climbed up from “Gang Member #2,” “Bum,” and “Hold-Up Man,”… through “Black Guy,” “Taxi Dispatcher,” and “Blind Man in Dream,”… on up to “Reggie Jenkins,” “Mailman,” and “Jules Winnfield.”

Well, that didn’t quite progress the way I’d have liked actually.

He’s had some good roles since Pulp Fiction, and sure, he was ShaftShaft reviewsShaft reviews, but I have suffered through his “Have Check Will Travel” long enough.

Now, I’ll give someone a “contractual obligation” or “screw it they offered me a lot of money” break once in a while, look at some of the other people in these movies with him…  Aha, but no one else is in ALL of these movies.

The decline in order of release.

It’s one thing to think you can be Shaft, but if Samuel L. Jackson thinks he can out Sho’Nuff Julius Carry, he’s dumber than someone who would make SnakesSnakes reviewsSnakes reviews on a Plane.
