Well, the story goes that Dexter is getting two more seasons.
The Showtime original about a serial killer has generated a lot of buzz, gotten pretty good reviews, and managed ratings that sit the show decently considering its slot in the grand scheme of things. It’s a pretty interesting show.
On the other hand, considering the rash of interest in HBO’s continuation of True Blood, I have to ask — Is Dexter really worth two more seasons?
I’ll tell you why I’m moved to comment on this one. Despite agreeing with most positive views on the show, it seems to me like it’s the sort of thing that ought to wrap itself up. There has been a recent rash of shows that I think ought to have been movies, or at best mini-series, but have managed to get turned into too-long-running series. Prison Break leaps to mind. Once these shows get popular, they have to keep going, and there doesn’t seem to be a point at which the moneymakers will leave well enough alone.
These days, shows continue on into absurdity, milking ad revenue based on the poor loyal fans who will watch even as the shows become ridiculous.
Is Dexter in this class assuming two more seasons?
