Tyra And Martha – Slightly Different Sides Of Crazy

by Marc Eastman on October 10, 2008

Some days I am really thankful for my Soup RSS feed popping up in my Reader.  You probably already know I’m a fan of the show, but I have to really give thanks to those who watch television so I don’t have to.

Not counting The SoupIn the Soup reviewsIn the Soup reviews, and its love of all that is stupid on television, I can’t pass up a good celebrity who has lost their mind.  I find it truly fascinating to puzzle over the audiences and popularity of the shows hosted by people who cause rampaging egomaniacs to avert their eyes and whistle absentmindedly.  I have strange visions of Kings of England and various other historic personages shuffling their feet, clearing their throats, and saying, “Dude, Ixnay.”

I’ve already noted the dread I feel at any mention of Tyra Banks, and the real problem for me is not the ratings she gets (or the awards for god’s sake), it’s that the people who show up to her “talk show” don’t seem to be making fun of her.  With a good Jerry Springer audience you know where you stand, but I suspect people are watching Tyra in some serious way.  This despite the fact that I also have a little hidden suspicion that Tyra is not actually as brain dead as she appears, and is instead playing some game of “how stupid can I act and still get people to watch me?”

Well, Miley Cyrus recently had her Disney birthday extravaganza, and Tyra was there bearing gifts.  A crack team of marketers trying to brand Tyra as “Celebrity Nutjob” could not have picked a more perfect gift for her to bestow on Miley.

You’ll have to check out the video link below… the YouTubeYouTubeYouTube video seems to have been pulled.

Now, there’s crazy celebrity ego, and then there’s just crazy.  Sometimes there’s both.  Martha Stewart’s ego needs no introduction.  This is despite the fact that, I mean come on, she sort of tidies up and cooks.  Now, I’d like to really go after the crazy you’ll find in this video, but words escape me.  The video seems to be something like nine minutes long, but I only made it through about twenty seconds.

Seriously, I need a shower.  As God is my witness this was in one of my Psychology textbooks.
