MTV is absolutely dedicated to promoting the stupidest reality television any random five drunks at a frathouse can think up (and even they didn't seriously mean they wanted to see it), and to prove it, Paris Hilton has a new show coming your way September 30th.
Trying to win the love of the C or D list moron of the moment has been doing so well, that we will now take things up a notch, and audition to be the friend of hopelessly clueless media stars. Paris Hilton will run competitors through the stupidest challenges "thought" up yet (and I've seen Shot at Love), as they try to win a shot at being her BFF.
She's narrowed the field down from thousands to pick the dozen or whatever lucky few, and the culling must have been a doozy. We've watched some classic brainiacs make the rounds through these shows, most notably on Shot at Love, and Rock of Love... well, the hell with it, anything with "Love" in the title, but none of their antics compare with merely meeting these new people. The actual show hasn't even aired, and my money is on every one of these winners scoring their own show.
It's not that there's anything truly surprising about this show's existence. It's not even that the show is going to get good enough ratings to make the venture worthwhile for MTV. It's a business after all. And, it's not even that people are going to go around watching the thing and talking about it with something other sickened dread like when The Simple Life was on. No, what really gets me is that MTV can't even spellcheck the damn website of the show. Here's their Casting Special page's lead in -
"Paris introduces her potential BFF's. Get know them and don't forget to watch the series premiere on Tuesday September 30th at 10PM ET."
We all know the people behind this show are laughing at the general public all the way to the bank. Fair enough, frankly. If you can't find a way to make a show stupid enough that people won't love it, I say good for you. But, put a little effort into the thing.
Now, a lot of Paris Hilton fans are wondering what's wrong with that quoted text up there... No. Come on. I'm kidding. Just because you're a Paris Hilton fan doesn't mean you're stupid.
(crickets)
Here... watch the trailer for the show... you'll love it. Especially when she calls herself a businesswoman.
Better yet, watch 8 minutes of casting special wonderment.
